this is my portrait of a place. it is rama jama's, the breakfast, burger, shake shack on bryant dr. i chose this place because i thougt it could almost tell a story itself. the owner is very nice, and looks like nick saban. enjoy!
There were a variety of things in each of the shots here that drew me eye. I did not know what to focus on...and the objects that were drawing attention away from the restaurant seemed to define what the place was more so than the actual place. What I mean is the town, memorabilia, and culture is what defines this restaurant not the place itself. I think this was very well related in this portrait.
this was great for this project in which it showed a place that is defined by its tradition and appearance as well as its food. It shows that you can go there just for the atmosphere. It was well done
Even though this restaurant is pretty small in size I can see how it would be a HUGE project to do as a portrait. I like how this was started by focusing on the theme of the whole place: football and more importantly Bear Bryant. By starting close on a few pictures and then zooming out to show the whole place was nice to emphasize the importance of tradition to the place. Showing the kitchen was nice as well. It really gave the rest of the piece a very homey feel to it. Everything is very cluttered and I think showing that is essential to really telling what this place is about. Nice work!
This seemed really cool and 80's like. I think the music is what did it for me, but also the shots of the old pictures of the Bear. I liked the focus shot of the bratwurst, just felt like I was in an old TV show almost. Good Stuff
Without a doubt my favorite shots were the close up of the food being made. Not only did it establish that this place cooks delicious food, but the actual shots showed the onions glistening and really sold me on what Rama Jama's is about. The shot from the kitchen out into the cash register was also compelling because it gave everyone a view from somewhere they couldn't normally go.
I watch a lot of Food network, and this really reminded me of something I might see on there without a narrator or host. The closeup shots of the food on the flattop were really nice and made me hungry. It could be used as an advertisement, because now I really want to go there.

ReplyDeleteLoved how you shot the food being made. Really got a sense of the homieness of the place. I also like that you established where it is located to.

ReplyDeletegreat establishing shots of the outside remind me of a history channel special (in a good wa i love the hc)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Colter, I didn't got a History Channel vibe in those opening shots.
